well, let's start with a few remarks before we get into the serious things.

the sepia-esque tone of this photo is most intriguing for me because i cannot seem to digest any sepia out there, and most recently i totally dislike its use in every cheap shot for an extra boost of value. knowing you for sometimes now - at least through your photos - i really believe you specifically went for this approach, as our beloved free encyclopedia can help us this time also: El Dorado = (Spanish for "the golden one"). so this is one long premeditated effect indeed.

technically speaking the photo is plain and clean. no trinkets, no extra unneeded baggage. a car, a road, a few poles and a strange settlement. and a huge yellow-sick sky. simple is always better and more powerful, from a metaphoric point of view.

what strikes me is the lack of subject in this photo. some of you might say the car is the main focus. but still, half a car and half an empty road do not make a good photographic subject but rather an antithesis. so the subject must be... missing? is it up to us to imagine it from the few suggestions given into the photo? hmm... bare with me.

i must say i rarely associate a song with a photo. it's a very difficult task for both of the artistic creation because they tend to complete themselves and doing so, decreasing their value as stand-alones and risking a dangerous and binding coexistence.

but here...

Baby, I've been waiting,
I've been waiting night and day.
I didn't see the time,
I waited half my life away.

someone stands in waiting for his half, same as the photo is broken into two sides. he might be anywhere, maybe on the right of the car, maybe in the left field, maybe sleeping into the back seat, maybe taking a piss on the side of the road. the feeling of waiting is persistent in my view, almost overwhelming. time almost stands still, in the brink of freezing.

Ah I don't believe you'd like it,
You wouldn't like it here.
There ain't no entertainment
and the judgments are severe.

waiting. hoping this desolate and unfriendly location will be their take off point to something familiar and more personal, not as aggressive the bladed grass or the grungy asphalt.

I dreamed about you, baby.
It was just the other night.
Most of you was naked
Ah but some of you was light.

the scenery is more than surreal, the hot sky almost making you wonder if this whole thing is not a place inside his head, where they already are together for thousand of years...

Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.

..where their love consumes them into one entity, with their home in El Dorado and the crooked church where they married leaning on the faraway settlement and their dreams and hopes into the immense plains and roads like veins of the earth.

When you've fallen on the highway
and you're lying in the rain,
and they ask you how you're doing
of course you'll say you can't complain --
If you're squeezed for information,
that's when you've got to play it dumb:
You just say you're out there waiting
for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

maybe this whole thing is not for everyone, but for a few opened hearts who can still go to that special place inside where every miracle is possible.

(lyrics belong to mr.leonard cohen, as you should already know. photo belongs to jd. the senseless ramblings belong to me)
