(now this is why i hate internet providers and periods without a net connection: you tend to loose some uploaded works like this one.)

this is one of my all times favs from JD and from this site. one i would definitely hung on my wall for more than six months (an eternity for me, i might add). one of the most interesting powerful symbolic minimalist semi-contrejour scapes i've seen. a small blue island. with death, life, magic and mysticism.

the optimism in this one is suggested by the ascending lines. somehow the crosses seem a little small to overcome the profound diagonal that stops into the tree - also suggesting life, joy and happiness.

right in the middle of the shot, the majestic figure of the horse stands alone dominating the whole scene, in a very respectful, peaceful way. next to it, a small and almost unidentifiable cross.

if you interpret this shot as torn out of a western, this would be a sad finale for a cowboy and his four legged companion under the moonlit sky.
if you interpret this as a fairytale you would see a dying unicorn coming to the place where things end and begin, guided by the stars.
if you see this as a modern tale you will see freedom: in the vastness of heaven, in the final peace of mankind, in the wildness of the horses.

the half moon perfectly balances the shot, counter-weighting the cross in a somehow magic and mystical way. both are very powerful symbols that leave no room for interpretation, otherwise very difficult to match without ruining the whole atmosphere. in here, because of their size, this problem is solved very elegant.

an for the sky: this must be one of the most perfect movement of clouds i have seen to add up to the feel of a shot! if you follow the lines or the descending whirlwind of clouds you'll end up in one place, the center and main subject of the photo.
the mere suggestion - the clouds only point you in the right way, without touching the earthly scape - lead you to think about the sky being yet another powerful element in this artwork. far away, immense and subtle, not interfering with worldly things and not suffocating. somehow divine and passive, but yet pointing and manipulating. sound like Someone we know.

the use of colors is incredible: blue, black, white. 3 colors in different quantities, that create a beautiful spine chilling yet optimist scape.

in the end, i must say: my words cannot describe this photo. to me, it's a revelation and it made my day. writing this i have already run late for my appointment but... looking at this is worth every minute!

thank you, JD!
