the vision of this shot is pretty unexpected. the thumb shows clearly a spider jumping with its claws and mouth opened to bite the beholder. the full screen shows a subway station and a stair and some lights. nothing spectacular at first. but with this photo nothing is as simple as it seems in the first place.
as far as the originality goes it's a zero or a ten. depends how much do you "feel" this shot. you might see a spiderbite mark on your neck or just some weird blurred lights. as far as vignetting and sepia use they go perfectly with the darklysh theme of the shot.
i'm really envious: this shows how you can transform the ordinary everyday life to something really special if you have the eye for it. i never seemed to get a good streetphotography shot. this photo shows me i was looking in the right places but with the eyes of my mind closed.
i stated in a previous critique that a good photography and photographer must f*ck with your mind and senses! this is another perfect example from JD.
I like how you make a familiar, everyday sight into an abstract vision. The curves and lines drawing the viewer's eye deeper and deeper into the picture make the image quite captivating. There's a lot of wonderful contrast here, not only in shape and lighting but also sharpness; the solid, unmoving rails juxtaposed with the blur of the moving stairs give the picture even more depth and dynamics. I do have one suggestion for improvement; it seems a bit cockeyed. You may want to try rotating the picture a few fractions of a degree counterclockwise. I also wonder if it would be even better with a less symmetrical composition. I'd love to see you experiment with different angles and perspectives on similar shots!
