This is a strong conceptual piece and very enjoyable.
An iPhone may not have been hurt as the artist says in the comments but I suspect the lead that may have been part of the pencil is a much lesser threat than all of the substances radiating from the iPhone.
The pencil is less powerful and as powerful at the same time. I like that. But clearly the pencil is the more innocent tool. And the shaved head has a little bit of Sanson to it. As if the iPhone has absorbed and replaced something.
On a technical note, I would have considered lightening the face of the bottom photograph to more directly echo the younger face - - but perhaps that would have been too graphically cliched.
ha ha - this is a fantastic concept! trully love it. Somehow i'm left wishing you had some way to get the i'phone to stay above your ear without the hand - perhaps with gaffa tape on an old disposable silicon skin so that the phone itself isn't damaged...
Thanks, Lizzy. As always, quick and dirty realization, so I couldn't find a way to magically hold the thingie above my ear. But that works for my point: pencil is obviously much more convenient
